Pastor     Rev. David Cox






 

David is a fully ordained minister of the United Methodist Church. He grew up in Asheboro, NC, graduated from Davidson College and the Divinity School of Duke University. He is married to Anita, and has three grandchildren.

David has served several churches in Western NC Conference, and has also earned credentials and served as a hospital chaplain in his ministry career. He was Director of Pastoral Care for High Point Regional Health System for almost 20 years, and served on national boards and committees related to hospital chaplaincy.

David is in his third year as pastor of Roberta United Methodist Church, and is very much excited about the growing potential opportunities the church has for spiritual growth and service in the community. David observes, “Come to worship on Sunday at Roberta, and the folks will make you feel so welcome and a part of the gathering, that you won’t want to leave.”





Secretary                         Phyllis Sutton Hammett

 


Phyllis has lived the majority of her life in this area. She attended School in Harrisburg, starting with the first grade and continued until graduating High School in one building. After working many years, she went back to school, taking Office Technology at Central Piedmont Community College. Until retirement she worked for Wachovia Bank. Upon retirement Phyllis continued her education by entering University of Phoenix and receiving an Associate Degree in Medical Technology. Phyllis stepped into the Secretary position when there was a need and has continued on.




Music Director  Laura Layton




Laura Layton has served at Roberta UMC since 2001. She started as accompanist and 2005 became the music director. Laura has been singing in church choirs since she was a child and started playing the piano for church services at age 14. Very soon after that, she realized that God had called her to serve Him through music. Laura graduated from Pfeiffer College with  BA in Church Music. In addition to serving at Roberta, Laura is a pre-school teacher at King's Keep Learning Center. In her spare time. she enjoys working in local community theaters, mostly as music director and/or accompanist. Laura feels blessed to be a part of the Roberta church family.

Director Children & Youth   Karen Poulin-Sparnon







Karen started working at Roberta in February 2009. Prior to coming to Roberta, Karen worked as the Youth director for Broad Street United Methodist Church in Mooresville where she currently resides with her 4 children. Born and raised in Connecticut, Karen studied Early Childhood Education at Saint Joseph College and ran a day care in addition to serving as the Christian Education Director for Second Congregational Church in Manchester, Connecticut before relocating to North Carolina in May of 2003.
Karen plays softball for the Roberta team and coaches volleyball for a club team. When she's not working, coaching or attending to her "mommy-duties", you can find Karen in one of her favorite places...at the barn riding her horse.
