Leadership

Rev. Perry Hines

We are pleased to announce that Perry Hines will become our Pastor in the new conference year.

Perry served as the Executive Director of The Open Door Ministries, a ministry to the marginalized in Waynesville, N. C. This is a ministry of Long’s Chapel UMC in Lake Junaluska. Perry completed 16 years in this position.

This past conference year, he served as the Associate Pastor of Central UMC in Concord for a number of months and after consultation with the District Superintendent, and the church has been away from the church in prayerful reflection and preparation for his next appointment.

Perry is an ordained minister in The Wesleyan Church where he served as a pastor for over twenty years. He graduated from Pfeiffer University with a B. A. in Religion.

His wife, Carolyn, is employed as the Controller of The Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church.

They have three grown children. They enjoy exercise, long hikes with their dog, Ira, and spending time with each other.

They express great anticipation at being a part of the Roberta UMC family.

Stephanie grew up in Northern Virginia. She graduated from George Mason University with a BS in Education. She worked as a Security Administrator for a government contractor before deciding to homeschool her children.  The military brought her family to the Charlotte area in 2010. She is married to Matt, who works for Norfolk Southern Railroad and serves in the 263rd Combat Communications Squadron in New London, NC. They reside in Concord with their four children; Luke, Nathanael, Joel, and Caroline. Stephanie volunteers for the Mecklenburg County Young Marines and in the administrative office of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Charlotte. She enjoys soap making and the great outdoors. She looks forward to serving the congregation of Roberta United Methodist Church.

Choir Director /

Accompanist,

Sharon Wooten

Sharon grew up in Salisbury/Spencer graduating from Salisbury High School in 1977.  She graduated from Pfeiffer College in 1981 with degrees in Church Music Administration and Music Education k-12.  She has been married to Dale Wooten for 33 years.  They have two sons:  Benjamin who is married to daughter-in-law Katy and they live in Mebane, NC.  Their second son is Mark, who will soon be taking a job in Fairfax Virginia.  Sharon likes to cook, sew, create crafts, decorate, entertain guests at home, sing and play the piano and organ.  She works at Corriher-Lipe Middle school as the Chorus Director.  She likes all types of music, but considers her best gifts to be in traditional worship.  Planning worship is a passion for her, because she wants her music to help bring people a little closer to God in the services she is involved in.  Dale and Sharon are enjoying their time at Roberta UMC.

Children & Youth Director

Mari Brooks

Because Mari is considered a (younger) adult member of our Church, she has a good, relatable connection with our Youth. You know, it wasn't too long ago that she was in their shoes! She finds dedication in helping guide these young people through real life situations and confrontations in the way that God would want us to. At an age where it is hard enough to find yourself and make sense of your purpose in society, along with peer pressure, bullying and other stressful situations, youth need as much support as they can get to remind them that they are marvelously made in the Lord, and family and prayer is what you need when life turns upside down.

We are always welcoming new families and individuals to join us at Roberta United Methodist Church. We welcome everyone with open arms and our only prayer is that each child and youth leave at the end of the day taking something with them, something they have learned or feel good about and use it to better themselves and help guide others to follow God.

Custodians,

Wayne & Debbie

Goodman

Wayne was born and raised in Concord, NC and Debbie was born and raised in Charlotte, NC.  Both their parents loved movie stars, so Wayne is John Wayne (named after The Duke) and Debbie was named after Debbie Reynolds, which is why her legal name is Debbie and not Deborah. They are also known as Pepaw and Memaw by their 11 beautiful grandkids ranging in ages from 5 months old to 16 years old!  Wayne is a retired truck driver of 33 years and Debbie is a Assistant Teacher at Harrisburg Elementary School Kids Plus.  She teaches 19 First Graders, and NO, I am NOT SMARTER THAN A FIRST GRADER!!!!

They totally feel blessed to be part of Roberta United Methodist Church!
