Leadership
Minister / Rev. Perry Hines

Perry served as the Executive Director of The Open Door Ministries, a ministry to the marginalized and disenfranchised as part of an off-campus ministry of Longs Chapel UMC in Waynesville, NC. Perry served in this position for 16 years.
Perry is an ordained minister in the NC West District of The Wesleyan Church where he served as a pastor for over twenty years. After starting his ministry in Charlotte, NC, he is happy to be back in the Charlotte area again. He graduated from Pfeiffer University with a B. A. in Religion.
His wife, Carolyn, is employed as the Controller of The Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church, and is a lifelong Methodist.
They have three grown children, two in NC and one in NM, and a fur-baby named Ira. They enjoy exercise, hiking, going to Christian concerts, and spending time with family and each other.
They are happy to serve and be a part of the Roberta UMC family!

Administrative Secretary / Michelle Ballantyne
Michelle has worked and volunteered in various administrative positions since she was seventeen years old. She has lived in three very different parts of the country (Illinois, New York, and North Carolina) but has been in the Concord/Kannapolis area the longest - since 1989. She met her husband, David (a Charlotte native), in 1991, and they married in 1993. They have three grown daughters and one wonderful son-in-law, all of whom live nearby. In August 2019, David and Michelle became “empty-nesters” when their youngest daughter began college as a student at UNC-Charlotte.
Michelle enjoys cooking, walking, reading, and spending time with her family. She is excited to use her administrative skills to serve the congregation of Roberta UMC!

Choir Director - Accompanist / Sharon Wooten
Sharon grew up in Rowan County graduating from Salisbury High School in 1977. She graduated from Pfeiffer College in 1981 with degrees in Church Music Administration in organ and voice and Music Education, k-12. She married Dale in 1981. They have two sons: Benjamin and Mark. Benjamin and his wife Katy live in Mebane NC; Mark and his wife Brenna live in Houston Texas. She likes to cook, sew, create crafts, decorate, entertain guests at home and of course play piano and organ and sing. She is retired from Rowan Salisbury Schools as a Music teacher in 2019. She came to work for RUMC in 2013. She enjoys all types of music. Although she considers her best gifts to be in traditional worship, she enjoys blending in some contemporary from time to time. Planning worship is a passion for her because she wants her music to help bring people closer to God in the services she plans.
Youth and Children's Director - Worship Leader / Pastor Joshua Jo

Joshua served the next generation in a church for seven years in Korea. During his last two years of ministry, he experienced events that made him more aware of the heart of God. Thus, he devoted himself to his calling as a shepherd to care for the Lord's people rather than to be a famous pastor. Eventually, he remembered the event in 2012 when God called him to America. And then, he realized that he must not come to America to get a better degree but as a God-minded shepherd who dreams of a new revival in America.
He has a happy family with his beloved wife Joy and three children, Anna, Isaac, and Esther. They are a musical family. They love to praise God with various instruments.
He majored in English Education at Keimyung University in 2010. He graduated from ChongShin Theological Seminary with M.div in 2014.
As a Korean man, he served in the Korean Military service for 2 years, from 2014 to 2016. After that, He got pastoral ordination at the Presbyterian Church of Korea in 2016. Then, he came to the United States in 2018 and graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in the United States with his second master's in Christian Leadership in 2022.

Custodian / Wayne Goodman
Wayne was born and raised in Concord, NC and his wife Debbie was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. Both their parents loved movie stars, so Wayne's name is actually John Wayne (named after The Duke) and Debbie was named after Debbie Reynolds, which is why her legal name is Debbie and not Deborah. They are also known as Pepaw and Memaw by their 11 beautiful grandkids ranging in ages from 5 months old to 16 years old! Wayne is a retired truck driver of 33 years and Debbie is an Assistant Teacher at Harrisburg Elementary School Kids Plus where she works with first graders. They feel totally blessed to be part of Roberta United Methodist Church!
